Evan Harris MP to propose pro-abortion motion at BMA ARM

Evan Harris MP (Lib Dem, Oxford West and Abingdon) is to propose a motion at the British Medical Association (BMA) Annual Representatives Meeting in Torquay at the end of the month to seek BMA support for abortion on request in the first trimester, nurses doing abortion and abortion at home and in GP surgeries.

Harris is a member of the BMA's Oxford branch which submitted one of three motions on the agenda for discussion at the ARM on Wednesday 27th June. An identical motion was forwarded via the BMA Junior Members' Forum.

Harris is also an elected member of the BMA Ethics Committee, which is similarly proposing to liberalise BMA policy, and a member of the House of Commons Science and Technology Committee, which has just called for a review of the 1967 Abortion Act.
